FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions.
At what ages do you accept children? Six weeks to school age. How many children are you licensed for? We have a license for 17 children. We are open Monday-Friday, 7:00 to 5:30. If you occasionally need extended hours that can be arranged just let us know. We do not take sick children. One of our jobs here at Calico Kids is to keep all the children as healthy as possible - no parent wants to take time from work because their child keeps getting sick. In order to maintain our healthy environment we ask that if your child is sick (temp over 101, vomit, diarrhea, discharge from the eyes, etc.)you keep them home. Colds are not a problem as long as the child is fever-free. Children get many colds each year and that is normal. Pam has been in business for 27 years and has an associates degree. Diane has been working here for 19 1/2 years and has met all the state requirments to work in child care. Wendy has been teaching in the public school system for seven years, has a Bachlors' Degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master's Degree in Administration. Julie has a bachelors degree in health, fitness and recreation and has taken many early childhood classes. Do you have a preschool program? Yes, we do have a preschool program. We use prepared curriculum which we re-evaluate each year. Some years we decided to add a new curriculum entirely, some years we just take bits and pieces from several curriculums we have used in the past. Generally what we decide to do is determined by the children that will be involved in the program for that year. We do lots of projects and hands on learning. We read to the children a lot and use music as a regular part of our program. We all believe that if you can read you can do anything, so it is our goal to introduce children to reading at an early age so they will always enjoy it as much as our staff does. How many employees do you have? We generally have four employees: Pam, Diane "Mama Chette", Wendy, and Julie When do the children go outside? During the nice weather the children are outside from after nap until they go home. Snack will be given outside at the picnic tables and then the children may go play. Water will be provided throughout playtime. During the winter, depending on the temperature, the children may or may not go outside. The babies generally will not go out during the winter. Are you closed other than scheduled holidays and vacations? Generally, no. However, in case of emergency, death, illness, etc. we may have to close, if we do have to close all families will be notified as soon as possible. Since 2000 we have only be closed twice for nonscheduled days off. If we are scheduled to be open we are generally here. We do not close for weather unless it is extreme or we have no electricity. If school is closed we are usually still open. |
