� students in 7th�12th grades � unless confirmed, 7th and 8th graders need to be in a religious education program through church or school � any 9th�12th grader may participate, regardless of religion Why should I participate in St. Mary�s Youth Group? � You make lasting friendships with youth who have similar values. � You have the opportunity to develop your faith through everyday experiences and interactions, prayer and spiritual experiences. � You have the opportunity to question and explore aspects of your faith. � You meet and work with many adults and youth from the community. � You have the opportunity of working in the community and exploring possible careers, jobs, vocations through many experiences and opportunities in youth group. � If you are interested in being a future leader, you have the opportunity of developing leadership skills. Who runs St. Mary�s Youth Group? � Our Youth Group is run by teen officers, and overseen by the Youth Minister who guides and advises, and Fr. Bill Scafidi, Pastor of St. Mary's. This gives teenagers the opportunity to work on leadership skills that they take into their college and adult lives. � Most of our teen officers have received scholarships from the work that they have done in St. Mary�s Youth Group. How do I find out about the scheduled activities and functions? � The officers are responsible for calling their members on a phone tree. � The officers also text message or e-mail members with upcoming information and reminders. � We are in the process of reinstituting a St. Mary�s Youth Group web page for the youth and their parents with a link to the St. Mary web page. Do I need to go to every meeting and every function? � Members pick and choose from the activities and functions based on interest and availability. � Officers need to make the commitment of being available to attend planning meetings and to attend as many of the functions as possible. Do I receive any bonus or credit for doing community service? � Youth members sign an attendance sheet when participating in any Youth Group event. � Youth are free to participate in any opportunity or function whenever they are available. � You may use any service work for community service hours for church or school purposes. |
