What is the SCMTA?

The SCMTA is the professional organization for Suffolk County Math Teachers of all levels (elementary to college), math related professionals, and interested parties.
It was begun under the umbrella of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics some 30 odd years ago.
Since then, most of the teacher services offered have become obsolete or unattainable as the demands placed on teachers has increased while their freedom to select courses and materials has decreased.
The Suffolk county teachers conference for example, which had many books on display and speakers relating successes with teaching materials, have ceased to draw an audience.
And because teachers are now only rarely permitted to take students out of school and because funding has been so hard to come by, some student events that used to be offered by the organization have ceased to be. For example, the student symposium, a one day event of learning outside the common school curriculum for elementary students.
In spite of these changes, the organization maintains a number of student activities, most notably the competitions.

I found the application for the event I want to register for but it is out of date. What do I do?

There are times when applications are not up to date. We apologize for that but it happens.
When you run into this problem, contact Jane, the web manager and she will send you the most up to date application she has as well as put it on the web.
Still, there are cases when the activity manager has not yet created a most up to date version and in those cases, we advice you to wait a few days while we get things ready for you.
