Chapter Meeting Summary

Chapter Meeting Summary May 6,2008

Meeting was called to order at 5:30 pm by our chapter President Linda 
Bradetich. 
Bob Bradetich told us about some training opportunities. The Central Oregon 
Labor Council & Central Oregon Jobs with Justice will have a presentation on 
the Labor Movement: Immigration, Workers rights, and Fair Trade. It will be 
held at the Red Lion Inn North.  May 22nd 6:30 to 8:30 Pm. Job Steward and 
Some Leadership training will be available to us this fall. Contact Bob 
Bradetich, our Field Rep, if you are interested. If you are interested in 
being on the insurance committee get in touch with Linda. 
Our executive Superintendent Meeting was just about saying Goodbye to Doug 
Nelson. We will be sending Doug Nelson a Retirement Card from our chapter 
thanking him for all he has done for us over the years. 
We are looking forward to our meetings with Ron Wilkinson as our new 
Superindent.
 According to our Chapter Bylaws the following Delegates were duly elected 
to go to Conference this year: Lona Conaway, Ron Wright, Eyvonne Griffith, 
Bill Griffith, Shirlee Johnson, Daryl Kidder, Mary Maddux, Linda Bradetich, 
Bob Plomski, and Tim Strausbaugh. Our alternates will be Gene Thrasher and 
Roger Hagemann. Our annual OSEA Conference will be held in Portland the last 
weekend in June. 
We had a great presentation from Lapine High school from FBLA. They will be 
going to Atlanta to compete in the Nationals and would like a donation 
towards their trip. Our Chapter donated $600.00. 
On June 14th Bend Lapine Schools has an annual golf tournament for 
employees. It will celebrate a successful Academic 2007/2008 school year. 
Ron Wright asked for a Contribution of $250.00 towards the cost of the 
tournament. It will be used at $10.00 each towards the cost for the first 25 
classified Members to register. In the event that there are not 25 
classified employees the remainder of the money would be returned to the 
chapter. 
KPOV asked for an Underwriter’s donation. OSEA would be mentioned on the air 
for a certain amount of time depending on the size of our donation. After 
some discussion it was decided that we would bring it back to the next 
chapter meeting for more discussion. 
Gene thrasher has been in touch with Bend Park and Recreation about the July 
4th Hayride and Booth. He is asking for Classified from all sites to help by 
donating an hour of your time to help run the booth and whatever else may be 
needed. If you are interested you can get in touch with Gene at 815-2284.

Chapter Meeting Summary April 1st , 2008

Meeting Called to order at 5:30 pm by our Chapter President Linda Bradetich.
We had 16 Members Present.
 Some upcoming events:
LERC Training May 2nd, 630 to 9:00 PM and May 3rd, 8:30 to 3:30 at Redmond
office.  
Annual OSEA Conference scheduled for June 26th  thru June 28th. 
Member Organizing Summer Institute 2008 July 25th 26th and 27th participants
are provided lodging and meals.  Chapter normally pays a stipend for gas for 
a
member to attend. Carpooling is encouraged. 
COCAAP  Meeting April 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM 
Our Executive Superintendent meeting was and at our Labor Management Meeting
we were told that job reclassifications were complete and a few are being
relooked at.  
Our President went to Presidents Council and they talked about our AFT
affiliation and what resources are available to us now. 
At our School Board Meeting they discussed Urban Growth and where they are 
and
why they moved some of the School Boundaries. 
Peggy Hanson Nominated Brad Warkenton for Custodial Rep. Mary Maddux 2nd the
Nomination and Brad Warkenton was duly elected Custodial Rep according to our
Chapter Constitution and by Laws. 
The Following Members were nominated to attend our Annual OSEA Conference in
June. Gene Thrasher, Ron Wright, Eyvonne Griffith,  Bill Griffith, Shirlee
Johnson, Daryl Kidder, Mary Maddux, Linda Bradetich, Bob Plomski, and  Tim
Strausbaugh, our  Alternates are Roger Hageman and Lona Conaway. 
A motion passed that we purchase a lap top computer for the Chapter in the
price range of $500.00 to $750.00. Another motion was passed to purchase web
design software to update our chapter website in the amount of $49.00. 
Instead
of paying our annual Fee of $40.00 for the Program we have. Linda Bradetich
has agreed to learn the new program and build our new website for the
2008/2009 school year. 
We had The Deca Kids here again this year. After some discussion a motion was
passed to sponsor $500.00 towards there program. And because of our concern
for the safety of our kids we  added the condition that if motor coaches are
hired for local trips we will not continue to support them. Our new Chapter
Executive Board was sworn in By Nikki Carson, our Zone 6 Director. The 
meeting
was adjourned at 7:02 PM by Linda Bradetich Our Chapter President.

Meeting Summary For February 5, 2008

The January chapter meeting was cancelled because of extremely bad weather. 
We carried our agenda over to our regularly scheduled monthly meetin in 
February.

The meeting was called to order at 5:30 pm by Mary Maddux. We had 15 members 
present. 

We had two months of business and events to cover. There will be a OSEA 
State Board meeting, Zone meeting and an AFT celebration on February 23rd at 
the Comfort Inn in Redmond. We had a record vote by secret ballot. 85% of 
the vote was to affliate with AFT. Now we are bigger and better. 

LERC training will be held the first weekend in May. We will be getting more 
information about that at our March meeting.

Our boundaries committee is coming along well on the new adjustments for the 
new schools being built. 

We had some heated discussion on some job descriptions. Some departments fel 
that they need to have them reassessed for some possible changes.

Nominations were opened for Chapter Officers and Classification Reps.

Meeting Summary For December 4, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 5:30 pm by Mary Maddux, our chapter 
president. We had 15 members present. We talked about our upcoming Christmas 
parade. Transportation will have a bus in the parade again this year.

A meeting was held on December 3rd and 4th for public comment on the process 
of selecting our new superintendent. Classified will have reps involved in 
that whole process. We did not have an Exec. Board meeting with the 
Superintendent. We did discuss our health insurance and some changes that 
have to be made. Daryl Kidder, Nikki Carson and Linda Bradetich spoke with 
us again and answered more questions about our possible affiliation with 
AFT. 

A picture of the Chapter Exec. Board was taken to be included in a flyer to 
be sent out to our chapter members letting them all know that we support 
this affiliation.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:03 pm.

Meeting Summary For November 6, 2007

We had 14 members present. We are excited that Daryl Kidder will be able to 
attend some AFT Training in Salem. He will have information to share at our 
next meeting. We will also have a chance to have some more AFT questions 
about our upcoming vote on affiliting with AFT. Linda Bradetich and Nikki 
Carson will be there to answer those questions for you. We are hoping to see 
those ballots by the end of January beginning of February.

The School Board will be forming a committee to look at our school 
boundaries again. They are all being affected with our fast growth and new 
schools coming soon. We are excited that there will be classified employees 
representing us. We will also be able to be represented in the hiring 
process of our new Superintendent.It is nice to know that OSEA is looking 
our for all of us.

We had more Job Description discussions since there were still so many 
questions. We sent out a letter to all classified that explained the process 
and what point in that process we have reached.

It is almost time to start thinking about nominations for our new Executive 
Board. If you or someone you wouk with are interested. Nominations will take 
place after the Chritmas holiday.

Meeting Summary For October 2, 2007 

Meeting was called to order at 5:30 pm. There were 17 Members attending.  
Most of the meeting was spent in discussion about job descriptions and how 
they are affecting many sites in our district and the fact that some job 
descriptions don’t fit the job that our classified employees are actually 
doing.  Mary, our chapter President, tried to answer all questions and 
assured our members that HR was working on it. The procedure that was 
followed in order to complete our job descriptions was also explained.  

Nikki Carson,our Zone 6 Director, and Linda Bradetich shared some great 
information with us about AFT.  They addressed some of the pros and cons 
about what an affiliation with AFT would mean to OSEA. They also answered 
several questions. We will also have some more discussion at our chapter 
meeting in November.  Lona Conaway won our drawing of a $25.00 Gift card to 
Red Robin.

Summary for September 11, 2007 meeting:

There were 25 Members Present!

We had Michael Funke as a guest from KPOV 106.7 FM. He represents the non 
profit radio station. He was asking us to help sponsor an Arlo Guthrie 
appearance scheduled for April 3rd  or a donation towards running the radio 
station.  After much discussion we voted to help by donating $300.00 towards 
the everyday expenses of running the  KPOV Radio Station. This will bring a 
lot of publicity for our Chapter and OSEA. 
Mrs. Brock was also a guest.  She was asking for a donation to help towards 
postage for the packages mailed out for Supporting Our Troops. We voted to 
donate $200.00 towards the November mailing and $300.00 towards the 
Christmas mailing.  
We talked a bit about the 4th of July Hay Rides. The members that 
volunteered really enjoyed the kids and meeting & talking to people. Our 
Labor Day Picnic was a great success this year. 
We had some pretty intense discussions about job descriptions and our new 
contract. 
Dawn Olsen won the Drawing of a $25.00 Gift Certificate to Red Robin.
